Sennen Cove RNLI lifeboat crew assist stranded yacht
On Sunday morning (17 September), the 10-metre yacht Heydays contacted Falmouth Coastguard requesting assistance. With two people on board, the yacht had suffered engine failure and was unable to make much headway in the light winds.
She was about 20 miles north of Sennen Cove, on route for Newlyn.
The RNLI Sennen Cove all weather lifeboat City of London III, with seven volunteer crew on board, launched at 11.05am to go to her assistance. It was estimated that they would reach the yacht in about an hour. The lifeboat arrived on scene at about 12.00pm.
Once the tow had been set up, the journey to Newlyn began. The expected time of arrival in Newlyn was between 4.00pm and 4.30pm. In actual fact they reached the safety of Newlyn harbour at 4.00pm.
The lifeboat returned to Sennen Cove and was recovered into the boathouse at 4.50pm.
