Busy Day for Aldeburgh RNLI Lifeboats

Lifeboats News Release

Aldeburgh's all-weather lifeboat, ‘Freddie Cooper’ and inshore lifeboat, ‘Susan Scott’ were called out within an hour of each other to different incidents on Sunday 10 September.

The inshore lifeboat (ILB) was launched at 3.20pm at the request of the UK Coastguard, to a report of a local boat in the River Aldeburgh, with a mooring rope around the propeller. Once on scene, the crew enquired if assistance was required, but the problem had been resolved, so the ILB returned to station.

Within the hour, the all-weather lifeboat (ALB) was launched at 4.10pm to a yacht with mechanical problems near Orford Ness, south of Aldeburgh. Weather conditions were poor with rough seas and wind speeds of force 5-6. Once on scene, a tow was established and the casualty taken to Harwich. The ALB returned to station at 11.45pm.
