Fowey RNLI volunteers called to red flares sighted a mile off Mevagissey
On 30 August at 4pm the pagers sounded. The seven volunteer crew members took the all-weather lifeboat Corinne Whitely to investigate with no knowledge of what they would find.
The inflatable with four people on board had been fishing off Mevagissey when their engine had broken down. The previous day they had been involved in a rescue of a small yacht which had, unbeknownst to them, damaged their own engine, causing the problem.
The Corinne Whitely was able to carry the four people, the inflatable and all their equipment safely back to Fowey where they were able to be picked up.
The lifeboat was then refuelled and returned to station, ready for service by 5.30pm.
