Spooky Shouts At Kinghorn RNLI
Kinghorn lifeboat volunteers have completed their annual Spooky Walks as part of fundraising for the RNLI charity, raising over £2,200, and the lifeboat also called out during the event on Saturday evening.
The Spooky Walks, which have taken place for the past thirteen years, returned for 2017 and featured 10 favourite stories, visiting some of the darkest, spookiest corners of Kinghorn harbour.
During the Saturday night tours, the lifeboat was launched following reported sightings of red and white flares near Methil. A search was undertaken between Buckhaven and Largo Bay.
Lifeboat crewmember Keith Hay said, ‘I’d like to thank everyone who came along and supported us once again. We rely on a lot of support from the crew and fundraising team, family, friends and colleagues from Kinghorn Coastguard Rescue Team.
‘Once again, the support of the local community, not only from those coming on the walks, but the many who helped run them, was phenomenal. The three-night run raised over £2,200.
‘On Saturday night our pagers sounded just after 7pm. The volunteer crew who were taking part in the walk quickly swapped their dark clothing for drysuits and launched the lifeboat. A coastal search was undertaken in the Methil area, with nothing found. It was suspected that the flares had been set off from land.
‘This money will help the RNLI charity to continue to save lives at sea. Around the UK and Ireland last year we saved 431 lives, with 8,851 launches. This would not have been possible without fundraising events such as the Spooky Walk.
The lifeboat fundraising committee and crew are now making preparations for their annual Christmas Fayre, which will be held in Kinghorn Church Hall on Saturday 25th November between 10am and noon. The Santa Run will also return for this 2017, held on the same day. Further details will be available on the station Facebook page.
