Salcombe RNLI help rescue injured fisherman
On Friday 29 September the RNLI Salcombe all-weather lifeboat (ALB) and it’s volunteer crew launched at the request of the Coastguard, responding to a MAYDAY call from a fishing vessel with a crew member who had sustained multiple injuries one mile south west of Start Point.
Upon arrival at the scene two members of the volunteer crew, (one of whom was a doctor), transferred to the fishing vessel to assess the situation and were joined by a winchman/paramedic from the Coastguard helicopter.
After stabilizing the casualty, it was decided that due to the injuries sustained it would be best to transfer the casualty to the ALB for a safe winch directly to the helicopter and onward transfer to Derriford Hospital.
