Pedal power raises £12,250 for Rhyl RNLI Volunteers

The Lon Las Loonies are a cycling club based in North Wales and each year challenge themselves to cycle a route in aid of charity.

This year’s event was to cycle from Rhyl RNLI Lifeboat Station to Cardiff the long way down, via Aberystwyth, St David’s, Tenby and Port Eynon. Over the four days they cycled 350 miles.

At a presentation night (Saturday 30 September 2017) the volunteer crew from Rhyl RNLI Lifeboat Station were astonished when the Lon Las Loonies presented them with a cheque for £12,250 which will go towards the new Shannon class lifeboat.

Also in attendance were Blood Bikes Wales, who also received a donation of £12,250.

Dom Senger from Lon Las Loonies says: ‘We are very pleased to be awarding these two fantastic charities £12,250 each from our Long Way Down charity event. The Blood Bikes Wales were with us every step of the way and each RNLI station we visited was very welcoming and this meant a lot to the team.’

Rhyl RNLI Coxswain Martin Jones says: 'We would like to thank the Lon Las Loonies for their generous donation, which I know took blood, sweat and tears to achieve. It's great to see the local community being so enthusiastic about the new Shannon class lifeboat that's due to replace our current lifeboat. The donation will go towards our new boat which will help us to continue to save lives at sea off the North Wales coast'.
