Troon lifeboat launched to aircraft emergency

Lifeboats News Release

At 11.11am on Thursday 18 May 2017, Troon Lifeboat was requested to launch to assist other emergency services after an aircraft declared an inflight emergency.

Due to the coastal location of Prestwick airport, Belfast Coastguard Operations Centre (CGOC) were alerted to the incident on board the inbound aircraft so immediately tasked the all-weather lifeboat along with the Ayr and Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Teams to assist.

The volunteer crew assembled at the station and the Trent class lifeboat RNLB Jim Moffat launched taking up a position near the airport.

Shortly after arriving at this location, confirmation came through from Belfast Coastguard that the aircraft had landed safely.

With this information, the lifeboat returned to Troon and was made ‘ready for service’ with the assistance of the shore crew.
