Bank raise cash for Whitby RNLI in volunteer scheme
Whitby RNLI were presented with a cheque for £2000 with money raised through a generous scheme at HSBC bank.
The Whitby branch of HSBC have donated a whopping £2000 for the hours RNLI crew member Joe Winspear has spent volunteering for the charity.
Branch manager Rachel Booth said 'Not only does Joe and the rest of the crew give up their time for the RNLI, but they are also putting themselves at potential risk, even risking their own lives, for the people of Whitby. To know they are there to keep us safe is fantastic so we are really pleased to be able to give something back.'
'We're all aware in the office that Joe is a crew member as sometimes his pager will go off and he will leave work to go on a rescue. It was amazing to visit the station this evening and see exactly what's involved.'
Whitby RNLI's coxswain Mike Russell said: 'Thank you to HSBC for the not only their generous donation which goes towards crew training and kit, but also for supporting our crew member and enabling him to respond to his pager in working hours. Without this flexibility from many local employers we might not be able to respond to every call out, so we're really grateful to them all.'
