Cash Boost from Nissan for Sunderland LIfeboat Station
Volunteer lifeboat crew based at Sunderland’s Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) station have again been overwhelmed by a cash boost by staff from local car giant Nissan.
Sunderland RNLI has today been presented with another cheque for £1,000 by staff at its Sunderland plant.
In recent years the local lifesaving charity has been the grateful recipient of several separate donations from the local car giant. So when Nissan got in touch with Sunderland RNLI again this year the volunteer crew were overjoyed that the company council had decided to once again support the RNLI.
Martin Andrew the Deputy Launching Authority for the charity received a £1000 cheque at a charity giving presentation at the car giant's Sunderland plant on the 3rd March. The money will be vitally important in supporting the continuing work the city's lifeboats continue to do.
Martin Andrew, from Fulwell, has been employed by Nissan as a Planning Engineer since 1988 and has been a volunteer with the RNLI at Sunderland for over 20 years; acting as a crewman and Helmsman before taking on the role as a Launch Authority.
He said: ‘On behalf of the management and crew at Sunderland RNLI lifeboat station I would like to thank my work colleagues for deciding to continue to support the RNLI through their charity giving. Funding like this is essential to allow the RNLI to provide a first class, joined-up rescue service from the beach to the open sea.’
The RNLI is a charity that relies on voluntary donations and legacies from the public for its income, they receive no government funding and donations like the one from Nissan are crucially important to maintain the professional lifesaving service.
