Sheerness RNLI lifeboat tow’s a drifting yacht to safety.
The Sheerness RNLI inshore lifeboat was called to the assistance of a yacht adrift in the River Medway
The volunteer crew of the Sheerness inshore lifeboat ‘Buster’ launched at 6.23pm on Friday 3 March after a call from the UK Coastguard that a 7 metre yacht ‘Swanti’, with two men on board,was drifting and disabled after suffering from machinery failure in the area of Stangate Creek in the River Medway.
The ILB proceeded to the given location but could not locate the casualty craft.
After further communications with the UK Coastguard the position of the craft was updated and that the craft had now drifted further and was located off Garrison Point.
The ILB turned around and eventually found the craft close to the Grain Hard Buoy.
A tow line was attached and the craft and its occupants were towed to the safety of Queenborough Harbour.
The ILB returned to station at 7.50pm
