Kirkwall volunteer crew receives £3,000 from the town's grammar school
The money was won through the Youth Philanthropy Initiative.
Kirkwall Grammar school S3 pupils presented a cheque for £3000 to Kirkwall RNLI volunteers on Wednesday 7 June.
The money was awarded to the school pupils who had based their project on the RNLI.
A photo of the team is attached showing Baillie Rorie with the rest of his team presenting the cheque to RNLI crew and the RNLI Community Safety Officer.
Baillie said, " I chose the RNLI as I hope to pursue a career at sea and living on an island we are all affected by the sea and the lifeboats rescue us if we are ever in trouble."
RNLI Community Safety Officer Mike Cooper said, "It is a huge amount of money but it is also important to educate younger people about the lifeboats and sea safety so we are very grateful that the students have done this."
The Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) is an active citizenship programme that raises awareness amongst young people about philanthropy and their local community. Each participating school, each year is responsible for directing a £3000 YPI Grant to a local charity through a unique programme of team work, research and competition. YPI Scotland is all about creativity and passion, leaving the four walls of the classroom behind, and supporting the issues young people care most about.
