Downhill derby drama for Penarth RNLI crews
Just as this year's downhill derby was drawing to a close Penarth RNLI lifeboat volunteers were tasked by Milford Haven Coastguards.
Two people had been identified as trapped on Sully Island by NCI Nells Point who had raised the alarm with the UK Coastguard. The safety barriers and blockades that were in place for the derby were quickly removed by RNLI volunteers and council staff, and the station's smaller D class lifeboat was quickly on the water.
The two people on the island were brought to the shore where they were met by our colleagues by officers from HM Coastguard Penarth.
