Poole Lifeboats launch to inflated liferaft then submerged vessel
Poole Lifeboats were both tasked this morning (Saturday January 14) initially the Atlantic lifeboat was tasked at 10.30am to a report of a sighting of an inflated life raft seen by a fisherman. The black and orange life raft was up on the rocks near to the railway line on Holes Bay.
The lifeboat volunteers were soon on scene, they investigated the life raft and methodically checked the immediate area, as all seemed in order, the crew took the life raft back to the station for further investigation by the coastguard.
Meanwhile, a report came through that there was a submerged boat on the pontoons upstream from the Twin sail bridge, the Atlantic was re-tasked to investigate.
The immersed vessel looked like a fishing boat, though there was not much visible above water to determine what type of vessel it was. Solent Coastguard tasked the lifeboat to conduct a thorough search of Holes Bay and the D class was requested to launch to search the shallow waters and Poole Coastguard was working alongside searching the shoreline where they could.
Conditions were breezy and the lifeboat crews had good visibility, after an extensive search of the area and after nothing untoward was found both boats were stood down. The lifeboats returned to station and were refuelled ready for service by 13.30pm.
