Two people rescued from rocks near Kettleness
Two elderly walkers were rescued by lifeboat from the rocks and a rising tide near Kettleness yesterday (Thurs) evening.
The man and woman had strayed from the Cleveland Way between Kettleness and Sandsend and ended up cut off on the foreshore. After a 999 call the Runswick Bay Rescue Boat and the Staithes and Runswick RNLI lifeboat sped to the scene where they found the couple sheltering on a grassy ledge as dusk approached.
The Runswick boat took them off the foreshore and transferred them to the Staithes lifeboat, which ferried them to Runswick Bay where they were met, uninjured, by HM Coastguard.
'It was a good job they could get a signal to call for help,” said a spokesman for Staithes RNLI. “It’s a pretty remote spot and they were facing a long, cold and uncomfortable night.'
