Pre-dawn yacht rescue for Penarth RNLI crew

Volunteer lifeboat crews members were paged this morning at 5.40am to assist a yacht in the channel.

The yacht was found to be aground just north of Penarth Head buoy. There was one person on board, and he had sailed across from Ireland. Our smaller D class lifeboat was able to refloat the yacht at around 7am, just under an hour after low water.  The vessel was guided into the outer harbour. Once again this shout shows the flexibility of the D class lifeboat, the mainstay of our activities, and the subject of our current fundraising appeal.

Crew members returned in time to start their day jobs, or for the lucky few not due in work, in time to  return to bed for an hour or two.
