Stricken trawler rescued in the Solway

The Workington RNLI  all-weather lifeboat Sir John Fisher was launched around 9pm on Friday evening, 14 October, with a crew of seven to rescue the trawler Solway Prospector which had broken down with a damaged gearbox off Southerness Point in the Solway.

Although the fishing boat with a crew of two had dropped anchor, it was dragging because of the strong tide.  The Silloth lifeboat was in attendance, but the Sir John Fisher towed the Solway Protector safely back to Maryport harbour arriving around  00.45am on Saturday morning.  There were no casualties.
