Morecambe’s volunteer RNLI lifeboat crew go to the aid of an elderly man
At 12.21 pm on Saturday 22 October 2016, Morecambe RNLI’s volunteer rescue hovercraft crew were tasked to assist the coastguard and North West ambulance service by going to the aid of an elderly man who had become ill whilst fishing.
The ambulance crew who had gone to his assistance decided that it was too muddy to safely carry the man to shore and so the rescue hovercraft was launched in order to convey the casualty, his wife and ambulance crew to the hovercraft station slipway, near the Midland Hotel, where he was transferred to a waiting ambulance.
Morecambe Deputy Launching Authority Colin Midwinter, said ’ ‘Morecambe Coastguard, North West Ambulance Service and our RNLI volunteer crew working together as a team, enabled the casualty to be quickly transported ashore to receive further medical treatment.’
