Fowey RNLI volunteers launched to rescue broken down rib off the Gwineas
On bank holiday Monday at 11.30am the all-weather lifeboat, Maurice and Joyce Hardy was launched to find and retrieve a 16ft red rib drifting near the Gwineas with four persons on board.
The Gwineas being a set of rocks lying about 500m east of Gorran Haven.
With a fairly brisk north easterly breeze with white horses showing, it was decided to send the Trent class lifeboat and they covered the 9 mile distance in less than 20 minutes.
The small rib with 1 adult, two teenagers and a child on board was then towed to Pentewan from where they had set out.
We would like to thank the crew of the yacht Morgana for standing by until the lifeboat arrived.
The lifeboat was then returned to station and made ready for service by 1.30pm.
