False alarm calls keep Sheerness RNLI lifeboat crew busy
The volunteer crew of the Sheerness RNLI inshore lifeboat were called out twice in the same evening to what turned out to be false alarm calls
Sheerness inshore lifeboat (ILB) was called at 5.08pm on Wednesday 24 May to a report of a red flare being sighted in the area of Queenborough Harbour.
The ILB was quickly on the scene and the crew carried out a comprehensive search of the area.
Nothing untoward was found and it was later learnt by Sheppey Coastguard that the flare had been fired from inland.
The ILB returned to station at 5.59pm but was then called again at 10.11pm to reports of yet another flare being fired in the same area.Once again the ILB made a thorough search of the area along with the Sheppey Coastguards and as on the previous call nothing was found.
The ILB returned to station at 11.47pm
