Porthdinllaen lifeboat launch to search for missing kayaks

Porthdinllaen`s all-weather lifeboat, the John D Spicer, launched at 4:41pm to search for two missing kayakers.
Holyhead Coastguard received a call from a concerned member of the public, who had been observing the two kayaks from shore that they had lost sight of both and were concerened for their safety.
The last known position for the missing KayaThe last known position of the kayakers was approximately two miles North of Trefor Pier. On arrival at the last known position, the Porthdinllaen lifeboat started an intensive search of the area and shortly after located the two kayakers ashore off Trefor Point. The strong current and wind had carried them both over two and a half miles down the coast in a relative short time. The lifeboat stood by and escorted both in to the safety of Trefor Harbour.
Coxswain Mike Davies addedMike Davies, Coxswain of Porthdinllaen Lifeboat said: 'The two kayakers had been out fishing and had been caught out by the weather - they did the correct thing by remaning together. Although not in immediate danger, the member of public who raised the alarm also did the correct thing when they lost sight of the casualty as they immediately contacted the Coastguard.'
