The Moelfre RNLI volunteer crew were tasked to assist a 38ft yacht with two people on board disabled with a fouled propeller and jammed sails of the north Anglesey coast.
The volunteer crew were tasked to the incident shortly after 3pm, when the skipper of the 38ft yacht requested lifeboat assistance after a line off the yachts deck had entered the water fouling its propeller. The vessel was adrift and struggling to make headway with very little wind and unfavourable sailing conditions.
Moelfre’s all-weather lifeboat ‘Kiwi’ was launched and on scene within20 minutes where a local dive vessel had offered to assist the yacht in freeing the propeller. The volunteer crew stood by whilst the operation was carried out. Once the rope was cleared the yachts crew checked for water ingress and all was clear. Moelfre lifeboat continued to escort the yacht back towards Conwy marina and then returned to station once the owner was confident all was well.
Moelfre lifeboat duty 2nd coxswain Michael Williams said:
“It was a routine call out for our volunteer crew. Fortunately the yachts owner had the additional assistance of the local dive vessel that was in the area. This saved the volunteer lifeboat crew a lengthy tow back to Conwy. The yachts crew were very professional and were wearing all of the relevant safety equipment.
