Cards and cakes to wish Ramsey RNLI Lifeboat a Happy 25th Birthday

Lifeboats News Release

Ramsey RNLI Mersey class lifeboat, the RNLB Ann & James Ritchie, will be celebrating its 25th birthday during July and would love to receive as many cards as possible to decorate the lifeboat station for Ramsey Lifeboat Day on 23rd July 2016.

Ramsey RNLI Deputy Head Launcher Theresa Shammon said: ‘Our lovely lifeboat, the Ann & James Ritchie, arrived in Ramsey on 5th July 1991 and has been part of town life since then. We really want to celebrate this by inviting local youngsters to make and send her birthday cards. The cards can be from individual children or organisations such as a pre-school Nursery groups, uniformed groups, schools or any young person’s groups. So please do get colouring and crafting.

‘We intend to decorate the Lifeboat Station with them on Friday 8th July, when the Ladies’ Lifeboat Guild is holding a celebratory afternoon tea at the boathouse and most importantly on Saturday 23rd July, when it is Ramsey RNLI Lifeboat Day. So we will need lots of birthday cards.

‘On the afternoon of Lifeboat Day Stormy Stan will present a couple of small prizes for best efforts. The finished cards should be sent by Thursday 7th July to me, Theresa Shammon c/o Ramsey RNLI Lifeboat Station, South Promenade, Ramsey, IM8 1BH or alternatively c/o Ramsey RNLI Shop, 3 Market Hill, Ramsey IM8 1JT.’

Station Mechanic Ali Clague added: ‘And birthdays definitely need cakes. On Lifeboat Day itself, as well as having a cake stall, we intend holding a birthday cake competition. The competition is for a simple sponge-type cake decorated with a lifeboat theme. There are first, second and third prizes not only for the best decorated cakes but also for the best tasting cakes. There is a suggested entry donation of £3 for the first cake and £2 for further entries. The bakers will be invited to donate their efforts for auction or sale towards the end of Lifeboat Day; however, this will not be obligatory. Entries should be received and signed in at the Boathouse between 9am and 11am on Lifeboat Day, Saturday 23rd July. We are finalising competition details and these should be ready by the end of June. Any enquiries or requests for information for either cards or cakes can be emailed to the Station, [email protected] or you can simply follow us on our Facebook page, Ramsey Rnli Lifeboat.’
