Wicklow RNLI assists three people on motor cruiser
Wicklow RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat launched at 8.20 this morning (Wednesday 8 June) to assist an 11m motorboat in difficulties about seven miles offshore.
The lifeboat under the command of Coxswain Nick Keogh located the casualty drifting one mile southeast of the South India buoy at 8.50am.
Weather conditions in the area were sea state calm with poor visibility due to fog.
The motor cruiser with three people on board was heading south when rope debris fouled its propeller and rudder.
With no means of propulsion and unable to make any headway, they contacted the Coast Guard for assistance.
The three people on the motor cruiser managed to clear the rope obstruction from the propeller as the lifeboat arrived alongside.
The lifeboat crew stood by as the motor cruiser restarted engines and was able to resume its passage south. With the boat now underway and clear of obstructions, the lifeboat returned to station.
