Upturned kayak sparks launch of Harwich Lifeboat

Some of the crew were already at the lifeboat station, preparing to launch on exercise, so the briefing and launch time was very quick. A search of the harbour entrance was conducted by the inshore lifeboat while a shore party of crew made their way to the Stone Pier, Harwich, to conduct a shoreline search.

An update was later received from the Coastguard and a Coastguard mobile unit, confirming that the kayak and owner were safe. The ILB was stood down and released to return to station. From there, the training exercise went ahead as planned.
