Third shout in under a week for Leverburgh crew
At 6.21pm on 31 May Stornoway Coastguard requested the assistance of Leverburgh Lifeboat following reports of a yacht in difficulty, at Amhuinnsuidhe, North Harris.
The 38 foot yacht, which had five persons on board had lost its propeller.
On arrival at the scene, the crew of the RNLB Pride and Spirit secured a towline to the yacht and both vessels then made their way back to Leverburgh Pier.
The lifeboat and volunteer crew were back in Leverburgh, refuelled and ready for service again by 11pm.
This is the third shout in just under a week for Leverburgh Lifeboat. The first of these shouts was last Wednesday evening (25 May) when volunteer crew were called to assist a vessel which had lost power, in challenging conditions, off Gallon Head, Uig, Isle of Lewis.
The lifeboat was then called out to assist a yacht in difficulty in the mouth of Lochmaddy Harbour, North Uist, on Sunday evening (29 May). The crew were stood down as they made their way to the scene, as the situation was resolved.
Leverburgh Lifeboat Station is currently serviced by a relief Lifeboat, the RNLB Pride and Spirit. This lifeboat came to the station at the beginning of March in place of Leverburgh's usual lifeboat, The Royal Thames, which has been in Poole for maintenance and the installation of a new navigation system.
Plans are currently being made to bring The Royal Thames back to Leverburgh as all works have been completed and sea trials have taken place. The passage north is due to take place in the next week (weather permitting).
