Haydn Miller assists 20ft speedboat with engine failure

Lifeboats News Release

Tenby’s RNLI all-weather lifeboat Haydn Miller was launched at 11.45am today (24 July) after a 20ft speedboat reported to Milford Haven Coastguard that they’d suffered engine failure between Tenby and Caldey and were adrift.

The lifeboat was quickly on the water and headed to the vessel’s last known position. The volunteer crew soon saw that the casualty vessel had drifted between Giltar and St Margaret’s island and was now about ¼ off Lydstep.

Once the lifeboat was alongside, the occupants of the casualty vessel requested a tow back to Tenby and some 30 minutes later, they arrived outside the harbour. Unfortunately, due to the ebbing tide, there was insufficient water in the harbour to allow the lifeboat to enter, so a member of the lifeboat crew assisted the occupants of the speedboat in paddling the vessel into the harbour.

With the vessel now safely back on its moorings, the lifeboat returned to station, arriving at 12.50pm.
