Conwy RNLI lifeboat launched to an overdue sailor

Conwy RNLI lifeboat The May-Bob launched with her volunteer crew of three at 11.04pm, shortly after being paged.

A member of staff at a local marina had made a call of concern to the coastguard at the sailing vessel in question after was seen to be moored near to the entrance of the marina with her sails fully rigged.

The volunteer lifeboat crew arrived on scene within minutes and were able to assist the lone sailor with de-rigging his sails. It was ascertained that the yacht was on passage from Port Dinorwic to Liverpool, and had entered Conwy for an unplanned rest stop. The sailor was found to be in a confused and fatigued state, and it was advised by the lifeboat crew that he be transferred ashore to the comfort of the boathouse to await a lift home.

The yacht was secured and the lifeboat proceeded back to the boathouse, where she arrived shortly before midnight. After completing washing down and refuelling, the the volunteers and the lifeboat were put back to bed ready for work Monday morning.
