Plenty of family fun over Bude Lifeboat Weekend

Lifeboats News Release

Bude lifeboat’s biggest fundraising event of the year is set to continue this August Bank Holiday Weekend

It starts on Saturday 27 August with a charity table top sale and Bude Metric Brass Band during the day followed by a quiz and music night in the evening.

The fundraising event raises crucial funds for the RNLI which not only contributes to running Bude’s lifeboat but also our excellent lifeguards who provide vital advice and assistance throughout the summer on our beaches.

On Sunday 28th there will be entertainment from midday until late with the Bencoolen Wreckers, a children’s disco and evening concert with Tintagel Orpheus Male Voice Choir and Champagne Chorus on the Castle Grounds.

Monday 29th is the main event ‘Lifeboat Day’ with events and activities starting at 9.30am and running throughout the day finishing with a firework finale. Lifeboat Day takes place on the castle grounds and around the canal, full details can be found in our souvenir brochure available from the lifeboat shop and at various outlets in town.

A special addition to the day will be the presence an RNLI Mersey lifeboat, this relief training lifeboat will be travelling to Bude on Saturday and will be open for viewing during lifeboat day, when it will be moored in the lower basin of the canal.

Other highlights of the day include dance performances by CJ’s School of Dance and Amanda Brooks School of Dance, Bideford Youth Pipe Band, the Duck Race, family evening with a disco and live music and not to be missed a search and rescue demonstration at Summerleaze Beach.

After saying a fond farewell to the Search and Rescue helicopter from RMB Chivenor last year Bude lifeboat is looking forward to welcoming the new Maritime and Coastguard Agency helicopter which, subject to operational requirements, will be joining Bude’s inshore lifeboat for the demonstration at 3pm.

It is also hoped that there will be a flyover by the Red Arrows as the return from a display. Subject to weather they should be flying from Summerleaze Beach over the marquee on the Castle Grounds between 5pm-6pm on Lifeboat Day!

Working hard behind the scenes the Bude lifeboat fundraising committee and crew have put together an event that will ensure everyone has a fun time whilst raising vital funds for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute, the charity that saves lives at sea.

So it’s hoped that with this packed programme you’ll come along and join us for some events during Bude Lifeboat Weekend, don’t forget if you’d like to help during the events even if it’s just for a couple of hours you can leave your details at the lifeboat shop.

We look forward to seeing you over the weekend!
