Douglas RNLI lifeboat called out after report of three people in the sea

Lifeboats News Release

Douglas RNLI lifeboat was launched today (22 August) at 5.45pm following a report of three people in the sea off Clay Head.

The RNLI all-weather lifeboat Sir William Hillary was launched under the command of volunteer coxswain Neal Corran to conduct a search from Groudle beach to Garwick at the southern end of Laxey Bay.

The lifeboat was joined in its search by a helicopter, RESCUE 936 based out of Caernarfon Airport, which had been scrambled to assist. Both lifeboat and helicopter completed two complete sweeps of their assigned search area without finding any trace of persons in the water.

With RESCUE 936 returning to base the lifeboat completed a further sweep of the search area before also being stood down to return to station where it was re-housed, refuelled and made ready again for service by 7.25pm..
