Another busy weekend for the Sheerness RNLI lifeboat crews
The Sheerness RNLI lifeboat volunteers were called to five incidents in two days over the weekend
After attending two incidents on the Saturday the volunteer crews of both the Sheerness lifeboats were in action again the following day.
The first call on Sunday 14 August was at 1.31pm when the crew of the all weather lifeboat (ALB) ‘The George and Ivy Swanson’ were called to assist a 25’ cruiser “Knutt a Clue” which was reported to be taking on water in Queenborough Harbour.
The ALB was on the scene at 1.42pm and located the craft on a mooring with the Queenborough Harbour trot boat alongside.
The situation was assessed by the lifeboat crew and as the cruiser was managing to pump the water out successfully with its own onboard pump the ALB was stood down and returned to station at 2.35pm
The second call came at 6.05pm when the new inshore lifeboat (ILB) ‘Buster’ was called to assist a 7.5metre fishing cruiser ‘TNT’ that was broken down off Oare Marshes in The Swale.
The craft with five people on board was located at 6.32 pm along with the Whitstable inshore lifeboat which had also been called and had taken the craft in tow.
The Sheerness ILB took over the tow and proceeded back to the all tide landing in Queenborough Harbour as a lady on the broken down vessel was diabetic and needed medication which was in her car at Queenborough.
The ILB was back on station at 9.08pm
Shortly after the ILB had launched to this call and with other crew members who had answered the call on their pagers still on station a phone call was made to the lifeboat boathouse by the coastguard reporting that a 35’ cruiser “Essence” with three men and two women on board had sent in a call for help after breaking down with fuel contamination problems to the east of Garrison Point.
The ALB launched at 6.20pm and located the casualty, which was at anchor at 6.25 pm
The vessel was taken under tow to Queenborough all tide landing and made secure at 6.55pm
The ALB was back on station and ready for service again at 7.10pm
