Dungeness lifeboat launched to dive boat with five persons on board

Lifeboats News Release

At 2.40pm on Saturday 6 August, Dover Coastguard tasked the Dungeness lifeboat to a 28’ dive boat broken down with gearbox failure, 7.5 miles east, northeast of the station with five persons on board which was on passage back to Dover.

Once on scene, Coxswain Stuart Adams in charge of the Shannon class lifeboat 13-02 ‘The Morrell’ and her volunteer crew rigged up a towrope on the stricken vessel and commenced a tow towards Dover harbour. In the meantime, Dover’s RNLI Severn class lifeboat was returning to Dover after attending the Folkestone Trawler Race so the tow by Dungeness was passed on to them to take safely into harbour.

Dungeness lifeboat returned to station and was ready for service by 5.10pm.
