Lyme Regis RNLI Lifeboat Week raises £25,000 for the life-saving charity
Organisers of RNLI Lifeboat Week in Lyme Regis have announced donations of more than £25,000 during this year's event.
More than fifty separate events were staged during the week, ranging from the Eastern Promise belly dancers to the bathtub race and tug o' war across the harbourmouth. Records were broken with more than a thousand little plastic competitors taking part in the duck race along the River Lim with hundreds cheering them on, and a wine or water lucky dip stall where eight thousand tickets were sold at a pound each.
Dozens of youngsters met the lifeboat crew as their parents took advantage of a photo opportunity on the lifeboat. More than 80 swimmers took part in a gruelling challenge over an 85m course from Cobb Gate to the harbour.
In the bathtub race a crew of Dorset firefighters won for the sixth year running. But the Lyme Regis lifeboat crew were delayed when they had to rescue the Colyton Butchers' bathtub as it started to drift.
The week was planned as usual by members of the Lyme Regis and Charmouth RNLI Guild. Chairman Irene Roper said:"It was a great week and a tremendous result. We are very grateful to all those who gave so generously to our charity.
We must also thank all those sponsors, including local traders, who once again gave us superb support."
