Yesterday, 19 April 2016 we had the honour of meeting Steve McAllister at RNLI Longhope Lifeboat Station. 63 year old Steve from Bristol is fundraising for the RNLI by cycling around the entire coast of the British Isles and Ireland and he intends to visit every lifeboat station en route. An incredible challenge indeed.
We were the 81 station he has visited on this astounding journey and he looked amazingly fit and well particularly after the horrendous gales and rain we have had recently. Our Coxswain Kevin Kirkpatrick said:' I'm astonished at the distance Steve has covered already and at what he has yet to do. We are all very impressed and extremely grateful for his support of the RNLI.'
His journey began 51 days ago at RNLI Penlee lifeboat station in Cornwall and he has cycled a distance of 2500 miles so far. When he has completed this challenging journey he will have pedalled approximately 8000 miles and visited a total of 237 lifeboat stations!
You can follow Steve's progress on www.rnlicoastalcycleride.com where you will find links to his facebook page and the VirginMoney-Giving page if you would like to help him reach his target of £8000.
RNLI Longhope were delighted to meet you Steve and we wish you all the very best with your onward journey. We would also like to thank you for raising funds for the RNLI and helping save lives at sea..... Here's power to your pedals!

The RNLI operates 238 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland and more than 240 lifeguard units on beaches around the UK and Channel Islands. The RNLI is independent of Coastguard and government and depends on voluntary donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, its lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved over 146,000 lives.
