Helensburgh RNLI helps sinking yacht

Lifeboats News Release

At 2023 hours on Monday 18th April, 2016 Helensburgh RNLI Lifeboat was paged after the owner of a 41' yacht reported that his vessel was taking in water.

The yacht, which was on a mooring off Rosneath at the time, had only been launched that day.  Fortunately the owner had gone to check the yacht and had noticed that it was lying low in the water.  Once on scene the lifeboat crew started to pump the sea water out of the vessel and then towed it to a nearby boatyard where it was put on a hoist and the remainder of the water pumped out.  The lifeboat then returned to base and was reported to be ready for service again at 2150 hours.

The RNLI charity saves lives at sea. Its volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland coasts. The RNLI operates 238 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland and more than 240 lifeguard units on beaches around the UK and Channel Islands. The RNLI is independent of Coastguard and government and depends on voluntary donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, its lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved over 146,000 lives.
