The RNLI Beaumaris based Atlantic 85 inshore Lifeboat Annette Mary Liddington was launched at 2.23 pm, the sea conditions at the launch resulted in the waves being able to lift the front wheels of the launching tractor from the sea bed once launched the lifeboat proceeded to search for the 27 foot sailing boat which was reported to be near Puffin Island with another 28 foot vessel attempting to maintain a tow however in the rough and confused seas too little headway was being made.
On approach to the reported area in view of the sea conditions the Helmsman on the Beaumaris Lifeboat requested at 3.05pm that Kiwi the Moelfre All-weather Tamar Lifeboat be launched in order to assist with the proposed tow.
The Beaumaris Lifeboat eventually sighted the casualty and companion boat just offshore off the pedestrian bridge over the railway by Dwgyfylchi. In view of the actual location of the casualty vessel it was decided to place a lifeboat man aboard the yacht whilst the inshore lifeboat took over the tow in order to take the yacht to the marina at Conwy.
In view of the prevailing sea conditions it was considered prudent for the Moelfre All Weather Lifeboat which was now approaching the incident should escort the Beaumaris Inshore Lifeboat whilst it continued to tow the yacht to Conwy marina.
Once in the Conwy river the tow was changed to an alongside tow by the Beaumaris Lifeboat and the casualty vessel was made fast alongside a pontoon at the marina. After ensuring the sole crew member aboard the yacht required no further assistance the lifeboat departed at 4.13pm and whilst returning to Beaumaris checked with h the yachtsman aboard the original towing vessel that all was well with him.
Both lifeboats then returned to their respective stations where they were refuelled an made ready for further service.
