Llandudno RNLI lifeboat crew in night search operation

Lifeboats News Release

Llandudno RNLI's volunteer lifeboat crew members were called out just before 3am on Sunday morning (3 April) to take their inshore lifeboat to Rhos-on-Sea following a report that a person had been seen to walk into the sea.

Whilst some crew members remained at Llandudno in case they were needed as the operation developed, the lifeboat launched from Rhos at 3.15am to join in a major search operation which also involved RNLI crewmen and coastguards ashore, the Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Caernarfon, police and an ambulance crew.

After the search had been in progress for over an hour it was found that the original phone call to Holyhead Coastguard appeared to have been a hoax.

The search was immediately called off with the participating units returning to their respective bases.

Llandudno RNLI's inshore lifeboat returned to station by road and by 5am had been serviced, refuelled and made ready for further service.
