The RNLI during the First World War
In 1914, during the First World War, one of the biggest RNLI rescues in history took place. Six lifeboats launched to Rohilla, a sinking hospital ship.
Incredibly, one of the five nurses saved, Mrs KM Roberts, had also been rescued from the Titanic just over 2 years earlier. One of the letters she wrote to her husband while onboard the ship is held in RNLI archives today.
