Totally Thames Festival 2026: Tower Lifeboat Station pop-up art gallery. Join us at Tower Lifeboat Station for a special pop-up exhibition as part of the Totally Thames Festival 2026 and learn how sustainability is shaping the future of RNLI lifesaving.

For 5 days, you can discover how RNLI lifeboat stations have evolved from the simple boathouses of the 19th century to today's world-class lifesaving facilities. With archival artwork from the RNLI’s collection, and a short film, this exhibition explores our innovation in design, construction and lifesaving operations. Learn how, even in the 1880s, RNLI boathouses were built to consistent standards – creating iconic and resilient buildings to support the crews. And how there are many former lifeboat stations still standing today, serving new roles within their communities.

Discover how sustainability principles have shaped the design and construction of Tower RNLI’s new station – including the use of modular construction methods, durable materials, improved accessibility and renewable energy.

As the station is operational, should the lifeboat be called out, or the station facilities are required for an emergency, we reserve the right to cancel the event, if necessary, for the safety of visitors and station volunteers.

Important Accessibility Information

Access to Tower Lifeboat Station is via a ramp, which varies in steepness depending on the tide. At low tide, the ramp can become quite steep, so please take extra care when planning your visit and consider this when booking.

Visitors are advised to wear appropriate clothing for the weather and flat, sturdy footwear. High heeled shoes are not permitted on the station. Conditions along the riverside can change quickly, and surfaces may be uneven or affected by river activity. If you are prone to motion sickness, you may wish to take precautions in advance.
