RNLI Farnham Branch: Ocean Adventures with Mike Golding OBE

Mike Golding OBE will talk about his career at the pinnacle of ocean sailing, highlighting the adventures and extreme challenges of single handed racing across the world’s unforgiving oceans. With incredible video footage, Mike will describe many of his races, including when he selflessly turned back into fierce storm conditions in the Southern Ocean, the most remote and dangerous waters in the world, sailing upwind for nearly 100 miles to rescue a fellow competitor whose boat was sinking.

Mike also champions the health of the oceans and is former chair of World Sailing’s Sustainability commission and is an ambassador for the charity International SeaKeepers.

The evening will also feature an informative talk by Jacqui Irons, Head of the Southeast region of the RNLI, about lifesaving and drowning prevention around the UK, and how the RNLI's new strategy is adapting to changing demands. The talk will emphasise the growing relevance of the RNLI to inland communities, such as ours.

There will be an interval between the talks, with a pay bar and free light bites available. There will be an opportunity to ask questions to both speakers.

The evening will be inspiring, interesting and educational and all ages are welcome.
