2000: Formation of the RNLI Flood Rescue Team
The RNLI Flood Rescue Team operated between 2000 and 2022, when the service was withdrawn.
After helping in the Mozambique floods of 2000, the RNLI formed its own Flood Rescue Team to respond to emergencies in the UK, Ireland and beyond. In 2013, members of the Flood Rescue Team were awarded medals for gallantry for a brave rescue in treacherous conditions. The service ran for over 20 years before being withdrawn in 2022, after the expertise and techniques developed by the RNLI were adopted across many national flood rescue operations.
