Janet Cooper OBE FCG FGE

Deputy Chair

Janet Cooper is a corporate lawyer whose client work focused on advising some of the world’s largest companies on corporate governance, executive remuneration and employee share ownership. Janet was a partner with City law firm Linklaters for over 20 years until 2011 and then founded a specialist law firm from which she retired from in 2020.  

Janet is a non-executive director of Nurture Landscapes and is the Vice-Chair on the council of Roehampton University and Chair of its Remuneration Committee. Janet is also on the boards of the Global Equity Organisation (which she co-founded in 1999) and ProShare. She was a Trustee and Vice President of the UK Board of UN Women, which is the United Nations entity supporting gender equality globally.

Janet was elected as a Deputy Chair of the RNLI in 2020 and became acting Co-Chair between July 2021 and July 2022. She has been Acting Chair of the RNLI since July 2022. She was Acting Chair of the RNLI from July 2022 to January 2023.

She first volunteered for the RNLI as a member of the Resources Committee from 2011 to 2014. She was elected to the RNLI Council and appointed as a Trustee in 2014, and Chair of the Remuneration Committee in 2019. She has been a member of the Membership and Nomination Committee since 2015 and the Chair from 2021. She is also a member of the People Committee, Heritage Committee and International Special Interest Group.

Janet was made an OBE in the 2017 New Year’s Honours list for services to equality, women’s empowerment and employee share ownership.
