Safety & Independent Assurance Director

Over the past 9 years at the RNLI, he has been an Accident Investigator, Head of Risk & Compliance, and was appointed Head of Safety in 2020 with the remit to build a dedicated Safety team and introduce a new safety learning approach across the organisation. Rob is a chartered member of the Institution of Occupational Health & Safety (IOSH).

In 2021, the RNLI established a new Safety & Independent Assurance Directorate under Rob’s leadership to support and enable the organisation to manage risks effectively and deliver a safe and effective service. The Directorate drives improvements across all regions and functions, working closely with teams to focus efforts where it matters the most. Their independence from any function means they can effectively challenge and hold others to account, as well as endorse good practice.

Rob comes from a family of RNLI supporters with relatives who have volunteered at Holyhead and Newbiggin Lifeboat Stations over the years. He himself is a volunteer Visits Officer at Poole Lifeboat Station. Rob lives in Dorset and enjoys sailing around the south coast and travelling.
