Long service recognised at Pwllheli RNLI

Two long-serving Pwllheli RNLI volunteers have been recognised for their dedication to the charity at a charity dinner dance held at Pwllheli RNLI on Saturday 19 September.

Neil Roberts was presented with an RNLI Certificate of Service recognising 42 years of service. Neil joined the RNLI as a teenager and spent many years as a member of the lifeboat crew before moving to shore-based volunteering as a head launcher. After more than four decades of volunteering, Neil has now hung up his wellies and retired from his role.

Also recognised on the evening was Sue Carlton, who received an RNLI medal marking 20 years of service as a fundraiser for Pwllheli RNLI. Sue continues to play an important role at the station, managing the retail operation and taking the RNLI gift shop on the road to events and fundraising activities, as well as running the shop at the station.

Pwllheli RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager Andy Vowel said:

‘The RNLI is built on the commitment of volunteers, and evenings like this are a wonderful opportunity to recognise the people who give their time to support the charity.

Every volunteer contributes in their own way, and that commitment is what keeps Pwllheli RNLI at the heart of our community. I would like to thank Neil and Sue for everything they have given to the station over the years. Their dedication and support have been greatly valued, and we are very grateful to them both.’

Their long-standing commitment is a reminder of the important role volunteers play in supporting the RNLI and its work to save lives at sea. Pwllheli RNLI would like to thank Neil and Sue for their many years of service, dedication and support, and wish Neil a very happy retirement from volunteering.
