Hastings RNLI seal of approval
It's not just human lives that are saved by Hastings RNLI, and not all lives are saved by boat crew.
Two members of the local RNLI fundraising team were recently alerted to a distressed seal pup on the beach by Hastings harbour arm. They immediately contacted the volunteers in the nearby RNLI shop, part of Hastings RNLI Lifeboat Station. The seal had several wounds and a swollen muzzle.
Gaynor called the British Divers Marine Life Rescue who took the pup to RSPCA Mallydams Wood Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Centre who are now caring for her. She was named Dolly after the late Dolly Parton.
Hastings Lifeboat Management Group chair Paul said :- “We were delighted to be able to help, Gaynor stayed with Dolly on the beach until she could be rescued. We have been told by Mallydams that Dolly is doing very well, she is eating well and gaining weight nicely. It was nice that members of the public recognised that we could help.”
