Burnham-on-Sea RNLI volunteers paged to investigate someone in the water.

Burnham’s D class lifeboat was launched at 8.10 pm and was on scene by the Pier within two minutes. The Atlantic lifeboat was brought to Immediate Readiness, on the Town Slip with crew ready to launch if needed. There was no sign of anyone in the water near the Pier, so the D class crew were tasked by Coastguard control to carry out a shoreline search up to Lower Light, down to mouth of the Brue and then back up to the Pier. At 8.35 pm the search was stood down by the Coastguard, as information had been received that individual was not in the water. Both boats were recovered to the station by 8.45 pm and made ready for next launch.

Duty Launch Authority Nigel Morton said; 'It was reassuring to know that the individual had not entered the water in this instance but, as always, it was good that we launched and provided a search capability and were on the water just in case we were needed'.

‘It is worth noting that when the pagers went off some of the crew were having supper. They were able to get home later and finish their meals! When the pagers go, we drop everything!
