Club Captain Paul Fields said: 'We are a seaside community, and the members of Thorpeness Golf Club want to support the local volunteers who give their time and sometimes risk their lives. Therefore, as Club Captains, Caroline and myself chose to fundraise for Aldeburgh RNLI this year. We are proud of our local lifeboat station volunteers who, 365 days of the year, are ready to assist holiday makers, fishermen and the yachting community if they get into difficulties at sea.

'Aldeburgh RNLI is not only our local lifeboat station, they are part of the family that forms the emergency services team in Suffolk. The first fundraising event was the Captain's Drive, which raised nearly £300, which is a great start to our fundraising year. We have also imposed a small fine for anyone sending their golf ball into the lake - adding to the donation pot for Aldeburgh RNLI.'

Martin Quinn, Aldeburgh RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager thanked the club for their generosity: 'Our local community is so important to our lifeboat station. Our volunteer crew are all local as are their families and their support networks. It is the local community - whether people are living here full time or visiting on holiday that line the beach to watch our lifeboat launch on training. And we are delighted that Paul and Caroline Fields, the Captains at Thorpeness Golf Club, have chosen us as their charity of the year and we thank them sincerely for their generosity.'
