With pagers beeping in homes around Troon, the lifeboat crew made their way to the lifeboat station to launch D class inshore lifeboat Sheena to assist. The Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team were also alerted and made their way to locate and monitor the vessel from the shore.

The D class inshore lifeboat soon left the harbour and made best speed towards the casualty vessel. Once Horse Island was in sight, the casualty vessel was located aground and, as the tide began to fall, was secured for recovery at a later date. The sole occupant from the vessel was transferred onto the inshore lifeboat and taken by the crew into Clyde Marina Ardrossan where the volunteers from the Coastguard team were waiting.

About 1am, the inshore lifeboat returned back into Troon harbour, where it was recovered and made ready for service with the assistance of the shore crew
