Islay RNLI launch to yacht with broken mast

On Friday 29 May at 1.37pm the Islay RNLI lifeboat crew were requested to launch by HM Coastguard UK to a yacht with a broken mast off the eastern coast of the Isle of Jura.

The yacht, which had one person on board, was in difficulty one and a half miles east of Craighouse bay on Jura. The Islay RNLI all-weather lifeboat The Helmet Schroder of Dunlossit II was launched from Port Askaig with six volunteer crew on board and made way to the scene. Meanwhile the Calmac MV Isle of Islay passenger ferry was able to stand by and keep eyes on the yacht and assist if required.

The yacht managed to make way into Craighouse Bay with Islay RNLI lifeboat standing by. The casualty yacht was met by Jura Coastguard and safely moored.

Islay RNLI wish to extend thank to all parties involved in the incident.
