Dart RNLI search after man overboard signal activated

Lifeboats News Release

Dart RNLI volunteers were tasked by Falmouth Coastguard at 11.50am on May 25 following reports of an activated man overboard signal, or Personal Locator Beacon near Noss on Dart Marina.

Both the B-Class Atlantic, helmed by Lee Darch and crewed by Yorkie Lomas, Robin Johnston and Will Davis, and the D-Class, helmed by Liam Hassard - his first as helm - and crewed by Shannon Hart and Caleb Brown, liaised with harbour patrol to search the area for around two hours, but no casualties were found.
During the search, another alarm signal was picked up, and the source was discovered to be an unintentional activation at a Dartmouth property.
Both boats were stood down, and while the shout proved to be a false alarm, it was an important reminder of the need to regularly check, maintain and correctly store emergency equipment, as every activation is treated as a potential emergency until proven otherwise.
