Troon RNLI launch to fouled fishing vessel

Lifeboats News Release

On Friday 22 May 2026, the pagers were activated at 2.38pm by Belfast Coastguard alerting the volunteer lifeboat crew to a 14m fishing vessel with a fouled propeller in a position approximately 7 miles south west of Troon.

After the crew assembled at the lifeboat station, the RNLI Shannon class all-weather lifeboat RNLB Roy Barker VI was launched to assess the situation.

On arrival and following an assessment of the situation, with no life at risk, the lifeboat crew updated Belfast Coastguard. A decision was made that the lifeboat would standby the fishing vessel until a tug arrived on scene to assist.

With a tug on route from Troon, the lifeboat remained on scene and once a tow was established by the tug the lifeboat was able to return to station where it was made 'ready for service' with the assistance of the shore crew.
